Walk In Coolers for Storage
ALL COMPONENTS MEET OR EXCEED THE NEW DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY SPECIFICATIONS WHICH TOOK EFFECT NATIONWIDE 0N JAN 1st, 2009.
WHILE WE BELIEVE THAT THE BEST VALUE FOR THE DOLLAR IS WITH EXTRUDED POLYSTYRENE INSULATED PANELS. FOR OUR CUSTOMERS WHO PREFER URETHANE INSULATED PANELS
WE NOW OFFER 4" AND 5" HIGH DENSITY RAIL FRAME CONSTRUCTION, FOAMED IN PLACE CLASS 1 URETHANE INSULATED PANELS.
IS YOUR HEAD SPINNING TRYING TO DECIDE BETWEEN EXTRUDED POLYSTYRENE OR URETHANE?
AT C & D EQUIPMENT YOU HAVE THE CHOICE.
High Density Rail:
In this type of panel, the frame is composed of high density (over 8lb per square ft) urethane "boards". The density of urethane used in the insulating portion of a urethane insulated panel is about 2.2 lbs per board foot.
In this type of panel you have the high structural strength of a wood framed panel, as compared to a frameless "foamed in place" urethane insulated panel without sacrificing the insulating value of the panel as with wood frame construction.
Another advantage is that High Density Rail panels are not subject to rot as wood framed panels are.
ARE YOU PLANNING ON STORING THE FOOD IN YOUR WALK IN COOLER OR WALK IN FREEZER AT 70 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT? NO?
WE DIDN'T THINK YOU WOULD. THAT IS WHY WE USE DOW™ BRAND, HIGH R XPS.
BELOW IS THE THERMAL RESISTANCE PROFILE OF OUR HIGH R XPS INSULATION AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES.
AT 70F / R-5 PER INCH (4 INCH PANEL R-20)
AT 55F / R-7.2 PER INCH (4 INCH PANEL R-28.8)
AT 35F / R-7.7 PER INCH (4 INCH PANEL R-30.8)
AT 25F / R-8.1 PER INCH (4 INCH PANEL R-32.4)
UNLIKE URETHANE, OUR INSULATION PERFORMS BETTER AT TEMPERATURES USED IN THE REAL WORLD
FOR WALK-IN COOLER AND WALK IN FREEZER APPLICATIONS
Whole panel R-Values for our panels is R-30.8 (at 35F)(Unlike our competitors 3.5" wooden framed panels where R-29 only applies to the center of the panel AND THE FRAME IS ONLY R-5) (due to pressure from wood frame panel manufacturers the R-value of the wood framing was exempted from E.I.S.A. energy requirements)
ALL 4" OF OUR PANELS INSULATION FOR BOTH COOLERS AND FREEZERS IS HIGH R-VALUE XPS (HIGH R-VALUE EXTRUDED POLYTYRENE).
SOME OF OUR COMPETITORS THAT TOUT THEIR USE OF EXTRUDED POLYSTYRENE (XPS) USE ONLY 3" OF XPS AND 1" OF LOW DENSITY EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE (AS USED IN COFFEE CUPS) SANDWICHED TOGETHER FOR THEIR COOLERS, AND ONLY USE A SOLID 4" OF EXTRUDED POLYSTYRENE FOR THEIR FREEZER PANELS.
WITH C & D EQUIPMENT WE USE ONLY A SOLID 4" OF HIGH R XPS FOR BOTH OUR COOLER AND FREEZER PANELS!
THE ONLY THING "PREMIUM" ABOUT THE OTHER GUYS WALK IN COOLERS IS THE PRICE YOU PAY.
AT C & D EQUIPMENT WE HELP YOU PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT FREE OF CHARGE!
THE ENTRANCE DOOR IS THE MOST USED, AND OFTEN TIMES THE MOST ABUSED PART OF ANY WALK IN COOLER OR FREEZER.
AT C & D EQUIPMENT, ALL OF OUR WALK IN COOLERS AND FREEZERS WILL INCLUDE A 36" HIGH, ALUMINUM DIAMOND KICK PLATE ON YOUR CHOICE OF EITHER THE INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR OF THE ENTRANCE DOOR AT NO EXTRA COST TO YOU FOR THIS IMPORTANT FEATURE!

Walk in coolers and walk in freezers for storage can be purchased as separate units, or combined as a single unit, with an interior pass-thru door connecting the walk in freezer and walk in cooler sections.
Both walk in coolers and walk in freezers, or combination walk in cooler / walk in freezers, can be designed for either outdoor or indoor installation of the walk in cooler or walk in freezer boxes, as well as either indoor or outdoor refrigeration systems.
Standard system parameters for our walk in coolers are designed to maintain a 35 degree Fahrenheit internal temperature.
Standard system parameters for our walk in freezers are designed to maintain a -10F internal temperature.
The standard size of our entrance doors is 34" x 76", but can be custom made to any size without much extra expense.
4" THICK DOW BRAND HIGH R / XPS (high R-value (HIGH DENSITY) extruded polystyrene) insulated panels with a natural embossed Acrylic coated Galvalume finish, (Galvalume 6 times more corrosion resistant than our competitors G 90 grade galvanized steel finish).
OUR COMPETITORS URETHANE INSULATION HAS A HIGHER (BETTER), THERMAL RESISTANCE (R-VALUE), AT HIGHER TEMPERATURES, AND A LOWER (WORSE), THERMAL RESISTANCE (R-VALUE), AS TEMPERATURES DECREASE. MAKING ITS PERFORMANCE IN WALK-IN COOLER AND FREEZER APPLICATIONS LESS EFFECTIVE.
DOW BRAND XPS INSULATION HAS A HIGHER (BETTER), THERMAL RESISTANCE, R-VALUE, AT LOWER TEMPERATURES, MAKING IT PERFECT FOR WALK IN COOLER OR FREEZER APPLICATIONS.
AT 35F (COOLER TEMPERTURE) THE WHOLE PANEL R-VALUE IS R-30.8.
(OUR XPS INSULATIONS HIGH COMPRESSION STRENGTH, (USED IN INSULATING BUILDING SLABS), MEANS LESS FLOOR DEGRADATION SUCH AS SINKING, AS SEEN WITH URETHANE INSULATED FLOORS)
Our competitor's quotes will note that their panels use urethane insulation,
sometimes make questionable or false claims concerning R-Value.
C & D EQUIPMENTS TOP TWO CLAIMS YOU SHOULD NEVER BELIEVE
(OR HAVE A DAMNED GOOD LAUGH AT)
1. "I'M AN HONEST POLITICIAN"
2. "OUR INSULATION NEVER LOSES R-VALUE"
Things to consider about urethane insulated panels:
1. Their panels overall R-value, or K-factor.
(The wooden frame portion of their panel has an R-value of only
about R-5 TOTAL, which is much lower than the insulating material,
which is only in the middle of the wooden frame.
Meaning that the panels overall R-value or K-factor is far lower than the
insulating material which is only in the center of the panel. In other word
they are leaving out the low R-value of the wooden frame portion of the
panel when making their R-value claim for their panel)
They are telling you only telling you their "foamed in place" urethane
panels initial R-value, not it's "aged R-value" after "outgassing"
has occured.
2. Stability of the R-value: When urethane is manufactured, the cell gas is
mostly blowing agent, (now Pentane or R-134A), with a low thermal
conductivity.
Because the gas in the cells is lighter than air, it is under constant
pressure from the surrounding atmosphere to escape the cells, much as a
balloon filled with Helium would be.
As the lighter than air gas escapes it is replaced by air and moisture, the
enemy of any insulation. As a result, the high initial R-Value of the
urethane insulation drops, thereby substantially reducing its R-value over
time.
This process, and its lowering effect on urethanes R-Value is know as
"Thermal Drift".
This effect is reduced because of the metal skin but still occurs.
Manufacturers had been reporting a 6-months aged R-Value value, but
beginning in 2003 have adopted a LTTR method (Long-term Thermal
Resistance). Based upon a method for cutting very thin layers of foam,
this method accelerates the air-diffusion and helps to predict the final R-
value.
As a result of the potentially dramatic lowering effect of outgassing on "Foamed in Place" urethanes R-Value, most companies utilizing urethane insulation in their panels will only refer to urethanes high initial R-Value, while not mentioning the much lower "Aged", or "Long Term" R-Value of urethane.
In general the LTTR values now offered by the industry for urethane insulation are:
urethane thickness initial r-value long term r-value drop in r-value
1" 8.57 6.00 -30%
1.5" 12.86 9.00 -30%
2" 17.14 12.10 -29%
2.5" 21.43 15.30 -29%
3" 25.71 18.50 -29%
3.5" 30.00 21.70 -28%
4" 34.00 25.00 -26%
COMPARE TO OUR 4" HIGH R (HIGH DENSITY)/ XPS (HIGH R-VALUE EXTRUDED POLYSTSYRENE) INSULATED PANELS.
WHOLE PANEL R-VALUE OF R-30.8 AT 35 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, AND R-32.4 AT 25 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, AND EVEN BETTER AT 0 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.
OUR DOW™ BRAND HIGH R EXTRUDED POLYSTYRENE IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE AS USED IN COFFEE CUPS, OR WITH STANDARD EXTRUDED POLYSTYRENE WHICH IS ONLY R-5.(Extrudeed polystyrene is not new. it was invented by former Dow™ research chemist Ottis Ray Mcintire, and first patented in 1944. Since then it has undergone many improvements. Resulting today in Dows™ High R-Value
extruded polystyrene certified to not only meet, but exceed new Department of Energy, Energy Independence and Security Act (E.I.S.A.) R-Ralue requiremets)
E.I.S.A. requires a minimum R-Value for coolers of R-25 at a 55F test temperature
Dow's™ High R XPS exceeds this and is rated at R-29 at a 55F test temperature, AND IS RATED AT R-30.8 AT A MORE REALISTIC COOLER TEST TEMPERATURE OF 35F!
(On May 3, 2008, Ray McIntyre was posthumously inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, joining nearly 400 Americans who helped elevate the human condition with inventions that transformed lives and future horizons.
Inductees to the Hall include Herbert Henry Dow (founder of The Dow Chemical Company), Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell.)
In short, the Long Term R-Value for urethane insulation is only about 6.25 per inch.

Styrofoam™ is the trademarked name for extruded polystyrene foam, an invention of the Dow Chemical Company that has been in production for more than 50 years.
Nearly anyone who has purchased coffee “to go” has heard the container being referred to as a Styrofoam™ cup.
However, extruded polystyrene has never been used to make disposable coffee cups. For that matter, it’s never been used to make portable picnic coolers either, this is another misconception. Those products are actually made from expanded polystyrene foam (EPS) NOT EXTRUDED POLYSTYRENE.
Unlike disposable cups and picnic coolers, which are notably white in color and composed of beads packed tightly together, products made from extruded polystyrene are CLOSED CELL,
and typically blue. It is used to make insulation wrap for residential homes, commercial buildings, and plumbing systems.
It is also used in road construction as an insulation layer under pavement to deter the formation of cracks and potholes that occur from seasonal freezing and thawing of the soil beneath.
Urethane could not be used for this purpose because even though it is also closed cell, urethane in constant contact with moisture loses its closed cell properties, this is why you never see
urethane used in any application where it is in constant contact with moisture. |
